I don't know about you, but I've been in love with one teaspoon shorts. But they are so expensive. $85 for a pair of jeans is way out of my price range. So, I got to thinking...I can make these myself. Honestly, I'll make up any excuse to go thrifting. Anyway, I thrifted my jeans for $1 at my local thrift store. You can probably get a pair of mommy jeans or a pair from the boys department for about $5-$6 dollars at Goodwill and they should have about the same fit.
Here's what you need to do:
*Start with a pair of loose fitting jeans. These jeans must sit low on your waist to have that "diaper" effect.
*Turn your jeans inside out and mark how much you want to cut.
Personally I prefer shorts where my butt is not hanging out of the back.
*Now, cut them. The jeans will be cut at a slight angle with the outside being shorter and the crotch area longer. And because I'm making the bandit shorts, I have to cuff the hem up, so I will leave the hem about two to three inches longer than I want the shorts to be. But if you want to just have the distressed hem, cut the shorts to desired length
**Remember that once cut, there is no going back**
So, I always cut a good inch or two longer than what I intend to, so that I can check the length after every half inch to inch cut.
VIOLA there you have it. A pair of $85 jeans for a fraction of the price! For a more distressed look, throw your jeans in to the wash! They'll come out perfectly distressed (check the picture below).
